Goodness, this is great. Yesterday was a wild day on Wall Street and stocks took a giant dive. This is a sign of a much larger financial and social problem that started with Ronald Reagan and deregulation. Thanks to Reagan and a succession of conservative pro business administrations the wealth of this country is now in the hands of a tiny minority of individuals. These men and women are rich beyond the wildest dreams of the average American who struggles to keep up with the rapidly rising price of energy. To the best of my knowledge there is no historical president for the wealth of this nation to be held by so few. Sure wealthy people have always existed, think about the Phipps, Whitneys, Vanderbilts etc., but they had a paternalistic approach capitalism. Today the wealthiest Americans have no sense of ethics and the result is that the disparity between those who are rich and poor is as wide as the Grand Canyon. In a world where the wealthy are a class apart the average person is struggling to survive and heat their home. Can politicians think and help? After yesterday, I am not sure.
